Tooth Preservation

Prophylaxis & professional dental cleaning in Aachen

Healthy teeth for a lifetime – regular preventive care makes it possible. During the professional dental cleaning we remove stubborn deposits and discolouration in places that home care barely reaches, and so help prevent caries and gum inflammation in a targeted way.

What is a professional dental cleaning?

The professional dental cleaning (PDC) complements daily brushing with a thorough cleaning at the practice. We remove soft and hard deposits such as plaque and tartar as well as discolouration – including in the spaces between the teeth and at the gum line, where toothbrush and floss often cannot reach.

Exactly where deposits accumulate, caries and gum inflammation develop over time. By removing these deposits regularly and then polishing and fluoridating the teeth, we create a clean starting point and help keep your teeth and gums healthy over the long term.

Remove what the brush can't reach – and keep it healthy on a recall cycle.

Your treatment, step by step

The professional cleaning is not a one-off but a recurring rhythm – five steps that repeat on each recall. Tap a step and its image appears on the right.

Costs & cost plan

The professional dental cleaning is usually a self-pay service. Some health insurers, however, contribute with a subsidy – it is worth checking your policy. The cost depends on the individual effort involved; in the consultation we explain the process and are happy to give you transparent information.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I have a professional dental cleaning?

For many patients, one to two appointments a year make sense. How often a cleaning is advisable for you depends on your individual risk – for example with gum problems or dental restorations. We are happy to recommend a suitable interval.

Is the treatment painful?

As a rule the professional dental cleaning is well tolerated and not painful. With sensitive teeth or irritated gums it can be briefly uncomfortable – in that case we work particularly gently and take your sensitivities into account.

What does a professional dental cleaning achieve?

It removes deposits and discolouration that home care does not reach, and so helps prevent caries and periodontitis. At the same time the teeth feel noticeably smooth and clean afterwards. This makes it an important element of preventive care.

Does health insurance cover the cost?

The professional dental cleaning is mostly a self-pay service. Some statutory health insurers, however, grant a subsidy, and many private policies contribute. It is worth clarifying this with your insurer in advance.

How long does an appointment take?

An appointment takes different amounts of time depending on the effort and the amount of deposits. Allow some unhurried time for the treatment – usually a little more at the first appointment or with heavier deposits. We discuss the exact process with you individually.
